Peonies return

I brought a few snippets of the tubers of the peonies from our last place. Siting them has been challenging, with the black walnuts and profuse shade. They, like several other perennials, are blooming rather late this year. We’ve had little sun and lots rain, which may have attributed to the delay.

Several are in a holding place, a spot that’s a bit too shady to flower, as we await yet more projects to be done.

In other garden happenings, the nepeta (catmint) and alliums continue to bloom, bringing butterflies, bees, and for a bit of time, a hummingbird. Most of the astilbe are ready to pop.

I’m continuing to work on that new fern garden and a small woodland corner of natives. More on both soon.
